The Society of International Chinese in Educational Technology (SICET) will organize its seventh International Conference of Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT2018) to provide a forum for researchers in technology and education areas to publish new research findings and exchange insights and experiences on related topics.
The conference will be held on December 11-15, 2018 in Auckland, New Zealand. You are invited to present at EITT 2018 to share your expertise and innovative practices with your peers, professional practitioners, and researchers from various disciplines around the world. The first six EITT conferences have been successfully held with EITT2012 in Beijing; EITT2013 in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA; EITT2014 in Brisbane, Australia; EITT2015 in Wuhan, China; EITT2016 Tainan, Taiwan; and EITT2017 in Osaka, Japan.
Founded in 2003, the Society of International Chinese in Educational Technology (SICET) is a nonpolitical, non-profit academic organization. The mission of SICET is to establish and strengthen international academic connections, exchanges, research, and studies in educational technology for teaching and learning, as well as to promote the application of educational technology in education.

Keynote 1: Innovation and Agency in Technology-mediated Language Teaching
by Cynthia J White
Dr. Cynthia White is Professor of Applied Linguistics, Massey University, New Zealand. She has published widely on distance and online learning, emotion in language learning, learner autonomy, and teacher identity and agency. She is a member of Editorial Boards of seven international journals and is Associate Editor for the journal Language Learning & Technology. Cynthia has been invited plenary speaker at international conferences in Germany, Thailand, Singapore, China, UK, Australia, Hawai’i, and Malaysia. With Professor Zheng Yanqun she is a joint leader of the Massey University-Beijing Language and Culture University Joint Research Centre in Applied Linguistics; together in 2018 they published a special issue of the journal Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching on technology-mediated Chinese language teaching. She is an external consultant at the National Middle East Language Resource Centre, USA for Arabic distance learning initiatives and has completed collaborative research projects with Oxford University, Open University UK and Nottingham University on online language learning and teaching. Her most recent projects focus on Synchronous Chinese Online Language Teaching in one-to-one video conferencing and on language teacher agency.
Keynote 2: Affective Learning and Pedagogy using Affective Computing
by Huang Yueh-Min
Dr. Huang Yueh-Min is serving as a Vice president of Kun Shan University, Taiwan, where he is also a Chair Professor in the Department of Engineering Science, National Cheng-Kung University. His research interests include e-Learning, multimedia communications, wireless networks, and artificial intelligence. He received his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1988 and 1991 respectively. He has completed over 60 Ph.D. and 250 MS thesis students. and co-authored 5 books and has published more than 260 SCI/SSCI refereed journal research papers. Dr. Huang has received many research awards, such as2 times of Taiwan’s outstanding research award in 2011 and 2014, given to Taiwan’s top 100 scholars and2018 Taiwan’s ICT Elite Award, given to top 10 most influential elites of Taiwan’s ICT industry. Besides the academic awards, his research team has walked away top prizes in 30 Taiwan’s ICT competitions. Dr. Huang is in the editorial board of over 10 SSCI- and SCI-indexed journals. He became the Fellow of British Computer Society (FBCS) in 2010. He received many funded research grants from National Science Council, Ministry of Education, Industrial Technology of Research Institute, and the Institute of Information Industry. Dr. Huang has been invited to give talks or served frequently in the program committee at national and international conferences.
Keynote 3: Blended Learning in Chinese Higher Education and Vocational Education
by Han Xibin and Wang Yuping
Dr. HAN Xibin is an associate professor and associate dean of the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University. His research interests focus on exploring the potential of ICT in learning, teaching, and administration in higher education and vocational education since 1998. It involves theories, technology, strategies and evaluation on blended learning and online education. In the past 20 years, his team has developed a series of software systems for e-learning that has been used in more than 500 Chinese universities and colleges. He is the president of the Society of International Chinese in Educational Technology (SICET) in 2018 and serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE). He is a member of the expert team of UNESCO project: Building the Capacity of Higher Education Institutions in Asia-Pacific Area for Blended Learning.
Dr. Wang Yuping an associate professor of Griffith Institute for Educational Research School of Languages and Linguistics Research. Her research focuses on the use of Synchronous Computer Mediated Communication and Synchronous Learning Management Systems in improving second language learning outcomes. Her research has investigated the linguistic, intercultural and technological affordances of various synchronous online learning environments, with publications on online task design principles, criteria for selecting effective online learning platforms, e-pedagogy and e-tutor training strategies in a distance and online language learning context. She served as the Executive Committee Member of SICET for past four years.

Submission of Papers
A paper should be prepared according to the proceedings template.
The submission must be 4-6 pages in length, including an abstract, references, and tables/figures. Submissions should represent original and substantive research results. We will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published (or accepted for publication) in another conference or journal. Authors should submit their manuscripts in PDF format to EITT2018 via the EasyChair submission system at

Each paper submitted to EITT2018 will be carefully evaluated based on its originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression.
Publication Information
The proceedings of EITT2018 will collect selected papers through a standard peer-review process. The organizer of the conference will collaborate with Conference Publishing Services (CPS) to publish the EITT2018 proceedings.
- CPS will provide full communication and assistance to authors and organizer throughout publication process;
- All accepted papers (up to six pages in Proceedings format) of the conference proceedings will be submitted to Xplore and, upon acceptance, submitted for indexing in EI (Compendex).
- Only papers that are presented by an author at the conference will be submitted for inclusion in the above digital libraries.
